Given Newfane's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Barker is ranked 519th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newfane's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Dickinson, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Dickinson hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Landon Braman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with four steals.
Wilson's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Newfane, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Wilson came up short against Newfane when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 57-44. Thankfully for Wilson, Evan Myers (who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
