The South Salem Saxons put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past North Salem 54-0 at home. The result was nothing new for South Salem, who have now won eight matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.
Athan Palmateer was on fire: he threw for 425 yards and three touchdowns while completing 91.4% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Esteban Mendez was another key contributor, picking up 161 receiving yards and a touchdown.
South Salem's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. North Salem's QB won't forget Divine Ibe anytime soon given Ibe sacked him four times.
South Salem's victory was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 McNary and 2-7 Roseburg (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.7% over those games). As for North Salem, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
South Salem will be playing in front of their home fans against Tigard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tigard is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. North Salem will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Grant at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
