The Warhill Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell to Lafayette 53-48. While losing is never fun, Warhill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while Lafayette is ranked 57th).
Lafayette got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jarquez Garrett out in front who scored 15 points along with five assists and three steals. Garrett is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Asa Fehrenbach, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks.
Warhill has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Lafayette, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Warhill will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against York at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. York and Warhill are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Lafayette, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Smithfield at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
