Newtown is a perfect 8-0 against Kolbe-Cathedral since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. Newtown extended their road winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Eli Sullivan. The Nighthawks blew past Danbury 3-0 on Saturday thanks in part to Sullivan, who had 17 digs and one assist. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 12 or more in each of the last eight games he's played dating back to last season.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-20, 25-8.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Kolbe-Cathedral took on Pomperaug on Thursday. The Cougars came up short against the Panthers, falling 3-0. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
While Kolbe-Cathedral was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-17.
Newtown will have to contain Angel Gomez as he made an impact in Kolbe-Cathedral's last game. He had 13 digs and two aces.
Newtown's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Kolbe-Cathedral, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's game: Newtown has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Kolbe-Cathedral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
