Aniguiin is 1-9 against the Northern Lights since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Both teams will face off on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Aniguiin is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Aniguiin pushed their score all the way to 61 last Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were dealt a 109-61 loss at the hands of Martin L Olson. Aniguiin has struggled against the Lynx recently, as their game last Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Shishmaref's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Non Varsity Tournament Opponent by a score of 58-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the defeat, Shishmaref had strong showings from Fred Olanna, who scored 21 points, and Louis Iyatunguk, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Iyatunguk has scored all season.
Aniguiin's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Shishmaref, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Aniguiin took a serious blow against the Northern Lights in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 79-23. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Aniguiin was down 46-14.
