There's no place like home for The Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Shawnee Mission East on Friday and snuck past 17-14. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Shawnee Mission Northwest also won the last time the pair played two weeks ago.
One reason for the win was Shawnee Mission Northwest's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Adam Hageman and his three sacks.
Shawnee Mission Northwest's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-5. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Shawnee Mission East, they, and Olathe West. As for Shawnee Mission East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Shawnee Mission Northwest will head out on the road to face off against Gardner-Edgerton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gardner-Edgerton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Shawnee Mission Northwest in Kansas (Gardner-Edgerton is ranked second, while Shawnee Mission Northwest is ranked 59th). Shawnee Mission East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
