Mapleton and Plymouth are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Mounties will head out to take on the Big Red at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mapleton took a 16-run loss the last time they faced off against South Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mounties sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Trojans on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Tyson Welch spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gabe Wrobleski was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Mapleton is 5-1 when Wrobleski posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-14 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Plymouth entered their tilt with Western Reserve on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Roughriders by a score of 6-2. Six seems to be a good number for the Big Red as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Lincoln Distl made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. Distl was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keegan Beverly, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Jarrett Burrer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Plymouth's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mapleton, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mapleton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Plymouth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mapleton might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Plymouth in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Mounties avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
