The Bolivar Central Tigers will square off against the Haywood Tomcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bolivar Central had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Fayette Ware on Monday. The Tigers blew past the Wildcats 17-2.
Meanwhile, Haywood got themselves on the board against Fayette Ware on Thursday, but Fayette Ware never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Wildcats. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Tomcats' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Lillian Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Haywood let Karly Young and Averie Parnell run wild. Young went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Parnell went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Myahil Boyd, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Haywood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fayette Ware only posted a batting average of .214.
Haywood pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bolivar Central, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Bolivar Central came up short against Haywood in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 7-4. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
