With a playoff game on the line, the Upland Highlanders/Scots rose to the challenge on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Vikings a 3-0 shutout. Given Upland's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Mountain View is ranked 450th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Upland hit Mountain View with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from
Nicholas Giron,
Luis Meza, and
Gavin Sampognaro.
Upland is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4-4 record this season. As for Mountain View, their loss dropped their record down to 13-12-2.
Upland will look to defend their home pitch on Tuesday against Yorba Linda. Upland is coming into the matchup with four straight victories at home, so Yorba Linda is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Mountain View does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
