The Normandy Invaders and the Steele Comets, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Normandy took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Avon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Invaders came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles last Thursday, sneaking past 3-2.
Normandy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 12-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 15-9.
Meanwhile, Steele made easy work of Midview last Thursday and carried off a 3-0 victory. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Middies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Steele walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the third set). The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-8.
Steele's win came from a few key players that Normandy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Joe Penano, who had four digs and three aces. He has been hot, having also posted 12 or more assists the last eight times he's played.
Steele was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 22 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in March of 2025.
The win got Normandy back to even at 1-1. As for Steele, their record is now 4-2.
Normandy might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Steele in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Invaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
