Basketball Recap: Cole Huffman Key Part of a Team Effort in Wildcats Win

Maxwell's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves by a score of 57-46. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Wolves are ranked 126th).

Maxwell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole Huffman led the charge by going 7 for 13 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Huffman is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Joaquin Vega, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Maxwell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Maywood/Hayes Center lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kade Broz, who posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxson Anders, who put up 11 points and six rebounds.

Maxwell's record is now 3-8. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4.

Maxwell will venture away from home to face off against South Loup at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they will host Sandhills/Thedford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
