The Hutto Hippos were the 69-44 winner over the Clemens Buffaloes when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Hutto received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 57-41 to Clemens. While losing is never fun, Hutto can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Clemens is ranked 20th).
Despite the loss, Hutto still got an impressive performance from Zachary Hicks, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Hicks has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacques Calhoun, who scored three points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Hutto has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Clemens, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-3.
Hutto won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Paetow at 12:00 p.m. on December 29th. Paetow is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. Clemens won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Michael's at 12:00 p.m. on December 29th. St. Michael's knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Clemens likes a good challenge.
