SouthWest Edgecombe is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars take on Farmville Central Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Farmville Central will be up against a hot SouthWest Edgecombe squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went SouthWest Edgecombe's way against Tarboro on Friday as SouthWest Edgecombe made off with a 14-1 victory. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.
Parker Gay was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brent Ritchie, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Farmville Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Southern Wayne a 14-0 shutout on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their one-run performance the game before.
The team relied heavily on Trey Williford, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Chase Felton, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Farmville Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Wayne only posted an OBP of .238.
SouthWest Edgecombe pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Farmville Central, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. SouthWest Edgecombe has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .467. However, it's not like Farmville Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
SouthWest Edgecombe skirted past Farmville Central 5-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Does SouthWest Edgecombe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Farmville Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
