The Saint Gertrude Gators will face off against the Fredericksburg Christian Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Last Thursday, Saint Gertrude came up short against Bishop Ireton and fell 9-6. The Gators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sophie Sims was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Campbell Kincaid made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Sophia Covington also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Fredericksburg Christian entered their tilt with Colonial Beach on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Drifters get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Like Saint Gertrude, Fredericksburg Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Scarlett Whittaker. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Whittaker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Fredericksburg Christian let Rylie Johnson and Haylie Johnson run wild. Rylie scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Haylie scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Thomas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Fredericksburg Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Saint Gertrude's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Fredericksburg Christian, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Saint Gertrude suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to Fredericksburg Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Gators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
