The Cornwall Central Dragons will take on the Warwick Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Monday, Cornwall Central made easy work of Washingtonville and carried off a 15-5 victory. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Warwick). Everything went their way against Monticello on Tuesday as they made off with a 17-1 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Michael Hennessy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Luca Siebert and Michael Molinelli did most of the damage at the plate: Siebert went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Molinelli went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Molinelli a new career-high. Dallas Kaminsky was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Warwick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.6.
Cornwall Central has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Warwick, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Everything went Cornwall Central's way against Warwick in their previous matchup back in April, as Cornwall Central made off with a 15-1 win. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
