New Philadelphia came tearing into Wednesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Steubenville Big Red as they made off with a 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Quakers, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jillian Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sidney Vandall was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Zoey Devore, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
New Philadelphia pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Steubenville, their loss dropped their record down to 18-6.
As of now, neither New Philadelphia nor the Big Red have any future games scheduled.
