Basketball Recap: Sandeep Cheekati's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Apex over Wakefield

Apex was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They fell 58-47 to the Wakefield Wolverines. The Cougars were probably out for revenge after losing 63-54 to them when the teams met back in December of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Apex lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sandeep Cheekati, who went 5 of 6 en route to 12 points and three blocks. Cheekati has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephen Beatty, who posted nine points along with six assists and six boards.

Ethan Wisler was nothing short of spectacular for Wakefield: he had 17 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Another player making a difference was Colin Taylor, who put up nine points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Apex's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Wakefield, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.

Apex will be taking part in a tournament against Cedar Ridge at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Apex is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season. As for Wakefield, they will take on Jordan in a tournament on December 27th. Wakefield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Jordan likes a good challenge.
