Piedmont has gone a perfect 10-0 against Monroe recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Piedmont has four straight victories, Monroe has 17 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Piedmont's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Wednesday. They put the hurt on Anson with a sharp 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Ashlyn Pressley, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Anson off the board. Pressley has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tara Deese and Aly Mills did most of the damage at the plate: Deese went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Mills went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Deese has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Loving, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Piedmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anson only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Monroe came up short against Forest Hills two weeks ago, falling 23-1.
Monroe saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vania Stevenson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Piedmont's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 1-17.
Monroe's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Piedmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Monroe, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 strikeouts. Will Piedmont keep running through batters, or will the Redhawks buck the trend?
Piedmont took their win against Monroe in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 18-0 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Redhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
