The Conard Red Wolves will challenge the Ridgefield Tigers on Wednesday. Conard is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Conard is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Maloney, who was ranked second at the time (Conard was ranked first). The Red Wolves came out on top in a nail-biter against the Spartans on Thursday, sneaking past 3-2.
Conard wouldn't go down easily and took Maloney into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 16-25, 15-8.
Ridgefield won the last time they faced Bridgeport Central, and Adam Swiergosz did his part to make sure it happened again. The Tigers blew past the Hilltoppers 3-0 on Monday thanks in part to Swiergosz, who had 28 assists and four digs. He has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more assists the last 14 times he's played.
Ridgefield was especially dominant in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-15, 25-16.
Ridgefield has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for Conard, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's match: Conard has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Ridgefield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Conard's way against Ridgefield in their previous meeting back in May, as Conard made off with a 3-0 win. Do the Red Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
