The Cheylin Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Triplains/Brewster, posting a 89-32 win on the road. That looming 89-32 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Cheylin yet this season.
Cheylin was led to victory by Logan McCarty and Pablo Bermudez. McCarty dropped a triple-double on 22 points, ten rebounds, and 11 assists, while Bermudez dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bermudez has scored at least 25% of Cheylin's points. Another player making a difference was Victor Hernandez, who scored eight points.
Triplains/Brewster's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Zerr, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Cheylin's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Triplains/Brewster, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Cheylin and Wheatland-Grinnell will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Wheatland-Grinnell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Cheylin is ranked 95th). Triplains/Brewster will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Rawlins County at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024.
