Baseball Recap: Bluffton Comes Up Short

Bluffton extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-7 in the process. They lost 13-3 to the Fort Jennings Musketeers. The Pirates were not able to make up for their loss to the Musketeers from their previous meeting back in April of 2023.

Luke Jebsen was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Bluffton is 3-1 when Jebsen posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Nathan Speicher was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

As for Fort Jennings, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Fort Jennings' side, Sam Dube made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Dube has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Owen Calvelage was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Hoersten, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bluffton will venture away from home to challenge Crestview at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fort Jennings, they will head out to face off against Wayne Trace at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
