For the first time this season, Mount Vernon will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Mineola Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Mount Vernon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 22-17 to Atlanta. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

09/05/25 vs Rusk | 304 |

Mount Vernon might have lost, but man, Dawson Witherspoon was a machine: he rushed for 162 yards and a pair of scores. Witherspoon is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 162 every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mineola). They blew past North Lamar 37-14 on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellowjackets considering their eight-point performance the game before.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Braelyn Geremonte and Aidan Shepherd. Geremonte rushed for 135 yards and one TD while picking up 7.5 yards per carry while Shepherd gained 61 total yards and a touchdown. With that strong performance, Geremonte is now averaging an impressive 101 rushing yards per game.
Mineola was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 334 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 168 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Mineola didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Kolten Garrigus, Eric Casper, and Kipton Neighbors picked up one apiece. Mineola got some further help from Ayden Phillips: he made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
The win got Mineola back to even at 2-2. As for Mount Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Mount Vernon has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 237 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mineola struggles in that department as they've been averaging 254.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mount Vernon came out on top in a nail-biter against Mineola when the teams last played back in September of 2024, sneaking past 17-14. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
