The Hampton County Hurricanes entered their tilt with the Ridgeland-Hardeeville Jaguars with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Hampton County came out on top against the Jaguars by a score of 52-40 on Wednesday. Given Hampton County's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Jaguars are ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Kavon Chisolm, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Goodman, who scored 12 points.
Jabien Harris and Kalen Riddles certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Harris scored 13 points, while Riddles scored eight points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Poncie Capers, who scored seven points.
Hampton County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Ridgeland-Hardeeville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.
Hampton County will head out on the road to square off against the Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ridgeland-Hardeeville, they and the Warhorses will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
