Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Cromwell's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Cromwell hadn't done well against Haddam-Killingworth recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers walked away with a 4-1 win over the Cougars. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Cougars back in April, they had to take a 3-1 defeat.

James Vinchetti spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Cromwell is 4-2 when Vinchetti allows three or fewer earned runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Cromwell let Ben Burdick and Jess Elfreich run wild. Burdick got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double, while Elfreich went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Burdick has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Ucol, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cromwell has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Haddam-Killingworth, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

Cromwell will have a chance to go back-to-back against Haddam-Killingworth: the pair will be back at it again later today.
