The Normal West Wildcats and the Lanphier Lions will round out the year against one another at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Normal West came up short against Mahomet-Seymour and fell 64-55.
Despite their loss, Normal West saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Undrell Alexander, who scored 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Mike Zaleski, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Lanphier, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 65-53 victory over Springfield Southeast last Saturday. Given Lanphier's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while Springfield Southeast is ranked 616th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Normal West has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Lanphier, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Normal West came up short against Lanphier in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 65-57. Can Normal West avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
