Washington is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Thursday. They are taking a road trip to square off against the Irvington Vikings at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Last Friday, Washington made easy work of American and carried off a 46-20 win. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won three contests by 26 points or more so far this season.
Washington can attribute much of their success to Bryan Bullock, who threw for 328 yards and six TDs while completing 90.9% of his passes, and Joseph Guerra, who picked up 227 receiving yards and five scores. Guerra's longest reception was for an incredible 72 yards.
Meanwhile, Irvington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 57-8 victory over the Tigers. That 49 point margin sets a new team best for the Vikings this season.
Irvington's win came from a few key players Washington will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ethan Insixiengmay, who rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown. Gabrial Aruwah also helped with two scores in total.
Irvington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Irvington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Insixiengmay and Aruwah. Insixiengmay got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Washington's record now sits at 3-1. As for Irvington, their record is now 4-1.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground. Washington has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 205.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Irvington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Washington came up short against Irvington in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 26-15. Thankfully for the Huskies, Matthew Forbes (who rushed for 183 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.3 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
