Holly Hill Academy will head out to take on Dorchester Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dorchester Academy took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Holly Hill Academy, who comes in off a win.
Holly Hill Academy barely beat Jefferson Davis Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Holly Hill Academy beat Jefferson Davis Academy last Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 16-4. Holly Hill Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by eight runs or more this season.
Taylor Wright made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Wright was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Abby Burleson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with six RBI and three runs. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Brabham, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Holly Hill Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson Davis Academy only posted an OBP of .364.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Dorchester Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Colleton Prep Academy.
Like Holly Hill Academy, Dorchester Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Emery McClure. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. McClure has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lily Canady was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.
Holly Hill Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Dorchester Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2.
Both Holly Hill Academy and Dorchester Academy just can't seem to miss. Holly Hill Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Dorchester Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Holly Hill Academy skirted past Dorchester Academy 9-8 when the teams last played back in April of 2015. Will Holly Hill Academy repeat their success, or does Dorchester Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
