Basketball Game Preview: Austin Maroons vs. Del Valle Cardinals

Austin has gone 10-0 against Del Valle recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Austin Maroons will venture away from home to face off against the Del Valle Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Austin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Austin ended up a good deal behind Lake Travis and lost 55-40. The Maroons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their defeat, Austin saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jillian Shirk, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 13 points and six steals, was perhaps the best of all. Shirk is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Miya Johnson, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Austin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Del Valle, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 61-32 win over Akins. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cardinals have posted since November 7, 2024.

Del Valle is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season. As for Austin, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-10.

Everything came up roses for Austin against Del Valle in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 72-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Austin since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
