Marriotts Ridge has gone a perfect 10-0 against Atholton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Marriotts Ridge will look to defend their home field against Atholton at 4:00 p.m. Marriotts Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Marriotts Ridge easily dispatched Oakland Mills on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Marriotts Ridge fell just short of Mt. Hebron by a score of 11-9 on Tuesday. Marriotts Ridge's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Biff Lorah made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Groff, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Atholton got the win against Wilde Lake on Thursday by a conclusive 19-3. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 11 runs or more this season.
Madison Rickets made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Reagan Law and Tatiana Maltez-Rosales did most of the damage at the plate: Law got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Maltez-Rosales went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Maltez-Rosales a new career-high. Dawnell Hagans was another key player, going 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs.
Atholton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. They are undefeated (4-0) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Marriotts Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Atholton, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8-1.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marriotts Ridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .486. However, it's not like Atholton struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
