John Paul II's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joseph Mata, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Mata has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Eliseo Garcia, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Texas School for the Deaf has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for John Paul II, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-18.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Texas School for the Deaf on the road again on Tuesday and play against Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for the Centurions, they will head out on the road to challenge the Guardians at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
