2A Tri-Peaks recap September 24, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Trinidad, who took down 92nd ranked La Junta, 25-0.
Florence's Zach Hoxie recorded the longest rushing play in 2A Tri-Peaks this season in his game against Alamosa last week. Hoxie scampered for 98 yards on the play and finished with 166 on the day as his team bested the Maroons.
Alamosa's dynamic duo of Marco Garcia and Bailey Garcia proved tough for Florence to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Garcia threw for 290 yards and 2 touchdowns and Garcia had 126 yards receiving. Clayton Brubacher helped Alamosa's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 129 yards.
Tom Newland's team's dynamic duo of Garcia and Garcia proved to be unstoppable against Jeremy Nix's team, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Garcia put up the best numbers in passing as the Maroons lost to the Huskies.
Garcia was the best wideout in the league this week as Alamosa fell to Florence.
Hector Alvarado made the biggest impact on defense this week as Lamar defeated Dolores Huerta Prep. The 5-foot-6 junior.
He was 18-36 with 3 interceptions.
Kyle Hicks was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 162 yards as the Savages lost to the Huskies. Teammate Uriel Vasquez added to the ground attack by rushing for 62 yards.
Alamosa's Garcia and Garcia have formed a dream team this season, leading 2A Tri-Peaks in both passing and receiving yards. Garcia has thrown for 751 yards this season, while Garcia has 21 catches for 481 yards. Florence's Hoxie leads the league in rushing yards with 593.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Maroons and St. Mary's face off next week.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Manitou Springs takes on the Huskies. At the moment, the Mustangs are in first, while Florence is in fourth.
Garcia and Garcia provided fans with a highlight when they connected against the Huskies. The connection was good for 59 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
