Softball Recap: Tri-Valley Wins Going Away Against Coshocton

Tri-Valley never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 37-0 margin over the Coshocton Redskins. That looming 37-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Scotties yet this season.

Ashlyn Davis and Paiton Murphy were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Davis pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Murphy pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Davis went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Murphy went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those two runs gave Davis a new career-high.

In other batting news, Delaney Bell was incredible, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, six runs, and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Gerren Mathews was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base.

Tri-Valley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Tri-Valley pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Coshocton, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

When Tri-Valley and Coshocton next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Scotties will square off against Licking Valley and their six-game winning streak at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Tri-Valley 3.5, the Panthers 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Coshocton will try to stop John Glenn's three-game winning streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
