Two dominant guards in Nickolas Bearden and Gio Sciandra are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Shorecrest Prep Chargers will face off against the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders at TBD on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Shorecrest Prep sitting on four straight wins and the Marauders on five.
Last Tuesday, Shorecrest Prep earned a 44-36 win over the BlueJackets.
Enrique Negron and Bearden were among the main playmakers for Shorecrest Prep as the former scored 13 points and the latter scored 17 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bearden has scored at least a third of Shorecrest Prep's points.
Meanwhile, Clearwater Central Catholic didn't have too much trouble with the Pirates at home on Wednesday as they won 67-53.
Clearwater Central Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sciandra, who scored 24 points along with five steals. Sciandra continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shauny Newton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Shorecrest Prep's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 17-8.
Everything came up roses for Shorecrest Prep against the Marauders in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 62-35 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shorecrest Prep since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
