The Hilliard Darby Panthers will take on the Bishop Ready Silver Knights at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hilliard Darby is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Hilliard Darby needed a bit of extra time to put away Hilliard Davidson. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Marley Grigsby spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lorelai Gum, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kaydence Speelman, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Ready). They blew past Franklin Heights 18-8 on Thursday. Considering the Silver Knights have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Natalie Wohrle was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Avalyn McCoy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Bishop Ready always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bishop Ready pushed their record up to 6-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Hilliard Darby, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hilliard Darby has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Bishop Ready struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Hilliard Darby's way against Bishop Ready when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Hilliard Darby made off with a 19-2 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Silver Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
