Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cornerstone Christian walked away with it. They really took it to Lancaster Baptist for the full four quarters, racking up a 43-6 win on the road. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Cornerstone Christian had established a 26 point advantage.
Cornerstone Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reed Ebberts, who rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Jarrett, who rushed for 22 yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cornerstone Christian's defense and their 6.5 sacks. In that department, Logan Wickwire was the leader with two sacks.
Meanwhile, Faith Baptist entered their tilt with Academy of Careers & Exploration with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Faith Baptist beat Academy of Careers & Exploration on Friday by the very same score they won with last week: 64-6. Given Faith Baptist's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Academy of Careers & Exploration is ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cornerstone Christian pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 PAL Academy and 2-6 Horizon Prep (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Faith Baptist, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
