Colton hasn't had much luck against Kennedy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Colton lost 20-10 to Perrydale on Wednesday. Even if the Vikings couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Katelynn Kimsey was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
Meanwhile, Kennedy got the win against Western Christian on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-2. Considering the Trojans have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Grace Traeger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Traeger was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Gabriela Farnsworth was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Brianna Traeger was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Kennedy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
This is the second loss in a row for Colton and nudges their season record down to 3-6-1. As for Kennedy, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Colton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've averaged .401. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
