The School Without Walls Penguins will face off against the Lincoln County Patriots at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
School Without Walls' pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Ballou 20-0. The result was nothing new for the Penguins, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Leo Peil was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Peil was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Nolan Spangenberg was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Zach Daskal-Koss was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
School Without Walls always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Lincoln County hadn't done well against Bourbon County recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Colonels with a sharp 12-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.
Like School Without Walls, Lincoln County also got a great game from a two-way player: Brennin Hazlett. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Hazlett has become a key player for Lincoln County: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-9 otherwise. Hazlett was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Lincoln County got a massive performance out of Sawyer Robbins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Robbins is becoming a predictor of the Patriots' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Parker Hart, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
School Without Walls' victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.
