It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Central Dragons can now relate to. They fell 26-13 to the Hornets on Friday. Central's loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.
Central's loss came despite strong showings from Hunter Smith and Jack Dunn. Smith rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, while Dunn picked up 64 receiving yards and a touchdown. Smith is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played.
Zander Telesz was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 85 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Kelvin Morrison, who gained 91 total yards and a touchdown.
Central's defeat dropped their record down to 12-1. As for Hickory, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hickory will head out on the road to face off against Belle Vernon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Belle Vernon is on a three-game streak of home wins, Hickory a eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
