The Compass Charter Aviators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Star. Compass Charter was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Compass Charter's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Bennett, who scored 17 points. That was a full 47.2% of Compass Charter's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Grayson Skimmyhorn was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and four steals.
North Star got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Blake Hansen out in front who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hansen has scored at least a third of North Star's points. Another player making a difference was Milt Pettit, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Compass Charter has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for North Star, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-15.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Compass Charter will take on the Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cole Valley Christian will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak. As for North Star, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Archers at 7:30 p.m. The Ambrose School knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully the Huskies like a good challenge.
