South Vermillion hasn't had much luck against Danville recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Wildcats will face off against the Warriors at 10:00 a.m. South Vermillion is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
South Vermillion will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against North Central on Thursday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Thunderbirds with a sharp 20-10 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Dallas Coleman and Parker Weir did most of the damage at the plate: Coleman went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI, while Weir went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Coleman has posted since back in April. Easton Smith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Danville suffered their biggest defeat since April 11th on Friday. They lost 20-8 to Cascade. Warriors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cadets since on Friday.
Boedee Allison and Ethan Wooten did some serious damage despite the final result: Allison went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Wooten went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That run was Allison's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Chiodo, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
South Vermillion's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Danville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. South Vermillion hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Danville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
South Vermillion came up short against Danville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
