The Whitinsville Christian Crusaders had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 44-39 W over Douglas on Tuesday. The win was all the more spectacular given Whitinsville Christian's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Douglas is ranked 78th).
Whitinsville Christian found their leader in underclassman Gabe Deters, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Deters scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Deters, who scored nine points.
Douglas' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Gosselin, who scored 14 points. Owen Gray was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
The win got Whitinsville Christian back to even at 5-5. As for Douglas, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5.
Whitinsville Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Sutton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Douglas' road trip will continue as they head out to face Hopedale at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th.
