Hiawatha is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Harvest Christian Academy, falling 35-13. Even if the Hawks couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Hiawatha got a massive performance out of Ashtyn Fredrickson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Makayla Conlee, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Indian Creek can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They blew past Amboy 12-3.
Avery Boehne made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, MaKenna Barshinger was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Gretta Oziah was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Hiawatha's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Indian Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.
Indian Creek's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hiawatha has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Indian Creek, though, as they've only averaged .348. Will they be able to contain Hiawatha's hitters?
Hiawatha suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Indian Creek in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
