The New Brighton Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their ninth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Ellwood City at home and fell 67-31. New Brighton has struggled against the Wolverine recently, as their game on Wednesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Ellwood City was led to victory by Aaron Lake and Joseph Roth. Lake almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Roth almost dropped a triple-double on 23 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Roth has scored at least a third of Ellwood City's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Williams, who scored eight points along with two blocks.
New Brighton has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Ellwood City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Brighton will challenge the Lancers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Neshannock presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Lions in Pennsylvania (the Lancers are ranked 158th, while the Lions are ranked 674th). Ellwood City will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th.
