Garces Memorial's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Stockdale. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 9, 2024, but that streak is no more.
The result came thanks to Jaiden Gutierrez's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lila Gannaway was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Arroyo Grande ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Mission College Prep 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Royals since March 5, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Kaylee Kopp (2027), who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Karly Ortega (2026), who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Garces Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Arroyo Grande, their win bumped their record up to 5-14.
Arroyo Grande's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Garces Memorial has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. It's a different story for Arroyo Grande, though, as they've only averaged .325. Will they be able to contain Garces Memorial's hitters?
