The Fairfield Falcons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 62-23 loss at the hands of Olpe. Fairfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-10.
Mikayla Pugh and Erin Schwertfeger certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Pugh scored 16 points along with three steals, while Schwertfeger scored four points along with ten rebounds. That was a full 69.6% of Fairfield's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Fairfield dropped their record down to 6-10 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Olpe, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairfield has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome South Barber on February 13th. Olpe will take on Osage City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Osage City is ranked 48th, while Olpe is ranked 67th).
