The Desert Ridge Jaguars will head out on the road to square off against the Xavier College Prep Gators at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Desert Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Desert Ridge is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Highland just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They came up short against the Hawks, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Jaguars have suffered against the Hawks since April 27, 2022.
Halle Davis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Aleeya Barwick, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Xavier College Prep waltzed into their contest on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Pumas get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.
Angie Falls made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.
Falls wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joie Ramos, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Xavier College Prep's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Ridge, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 16-7.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Desert Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .415. However, it's not like Xavier College Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
