It was a proper cat-fight when Newbury Park took on Oaks Christian on Tuesday. The Panthers took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Janessa Gutierrez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Yasmin Topinko, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Agoura, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on Westlake with a sharp 15-6 victory on Tuesday. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Chaden Chatelain was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Rylee Redmond was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Jordy Charash was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
Agoura hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matches.
Newbury Park's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Agoura, their record now sits at 12-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Newbury Park hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Agoura struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Newbury Park might still be hurting after the 18-1 loss they got from Agoura in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
