After flying high against SouthLake Christian Academy last Friday, the Gaston Christian Eagles came back down to earth. Gaston Christian took a 46-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northside Christian Academy on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Gaston Christian has scored all season.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Makoi Mabor Marier, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Joe Rhyne, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Kyrell Shaw was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with two steals for Northside Christian Academy. Shaw hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleel Smith, who scored three points along with three steals.
Gaston Christian now has a losing record at 11-12. As for Northside Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.
Gaston Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Hickory Grove Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hickory Grove Christian is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. Northside Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against The Burlington School at 4:30 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (The Burlington School is ranked sixth, while Northside Christian Academy is ranked 19th).
