The Reed-Custer Comets will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Wilmington Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. Reed-Custer is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Last Monday, Reed-Custer came up short against Lisle and fell 52-41.
Kaylee Tribble put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Mya Beard, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Wilmington can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They blew past Streator 49-27. The win was just what Wilmington needed coming off of a 67-38 loss in their prior match.
Wilmington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lexi Liaromatis led the charge by scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds. Sami Liaromatis was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
Reed-Custer has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season. As for Wilmington, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-18.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Reed-Custer have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wilmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Reed-Custer's way against Wilmington in their previous meeting back in January as Reed-Custer made off with a 45-22 victory. Does Reed-Custer have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wilmington turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
