On Tuesday, West Point escaped with a win against Corinth by the margin of a single free throw, 45-44.
Despite the defeat, Corinth saw an underclassman step up: Xae Mayes scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The game was Mayes' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Braedyn Burress was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Even though they lost, Corinth were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
West Point pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Corinth, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Point will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Itawamba Agricultural at 11:00 a.m. on December 29th. As for Corinth, they will take on Tishomingo County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tishomingo County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Corinth is ranked 90th).
